Located on the traditional territories of the lək̓wəŋən People, Surrounded by Cedar Child & Family Services’ (SCCFS) vision is to support the empowerment of the urban Indigenous community to continue the reclamation of traditional systems of caring for and protecting children so no child or youth will be placed into care. As an urban delegated Indigenous Child & Family Service Agency, SCCFS is committed to providing child and family services strongly rooted in Indigenous cultural values and world views while ensuring urban Indigenous children and youth grow up connected to family, community, and culture.
SCCFS receives its delegation through the Provincial Director of Child Welfare, who gives the agency the authority to undertake administration of parts of the Child, Family and Community Service Act (CFCSA). Under its current delegation agreement, Surrounded by Cedar administers C3 (Voluntary Services) and C4 services (Guardianship).

In the role as Generalist Delegated Practitioner, you will have the opportunity to:
- Deliver culturally grounded, generalist delegated services to urban Indigenous children, youth, young adults, families, and caregivers across a spectrum of delegated services including Family Services, Guardianship & Permanency Planning, Youth Transitions, and Resources and Out‑of‑Care, centring Indigenous ways of knowing, being and doing.
- Provide a range of voluntary services to urban Indigenous families to ensure children and youth remain safely in the care of their parents, family or community members.
- Support foster caregivers and Out‑of‑Care care providers, including recruitment, assessment, training, retention, and ongoing support while maintaining accurate documentation, financial processes, and collaborative, team‑based service.
- Act as legal guardian to children and youth in care, focusing on permanency planning responsibilities; developing, implementing, and monitoring Care Plans; supporting youth transitioning to adulthood; and ensuring safe, stable, and culturally connected placements.
WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO THE ROLE

Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Child & Youth Care, or a related discipline from a recognized post-secondary institution.

Experience working with urban Indigenous children, youth, young adults, families and caregivers.

Experience working in interdisciplinary teams and adapting to diverse service needs and settings.

Demonstrated understanding of generalist delegated practice, including assessment, case management, crisis intervention, advocacy and collaborative planning.

Extensive knowledge of C3 and C4 delegated responsibilities.

Preference will be given to candidates with C4 delegation in British Columbia.

Willingness and ability to travel and work some evenings and weekends.

Valid Class 5 Driver’s License, satisfactory driver’s abstract, and access to a safe, reliable vehicle.

Satisfactory vulnerable sector check as required through the Criminal Records Review Act.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed in a variety of settings, including in office, client/caregiver homes, and community settings. Working hours are generally Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Some evening and/or weekend work will be required. Work involves supporting clients with varying needs which may result in exposure to substance use and unpredictable behaviour. Some travel is required. Some computer work may require longer hours of sitting and eyestrain. Multiple shifting priorities. May be required to occasionally lift or move equipment and boxes up to 50 pounds.
