INTENSIVE YOUTH SUPPORT SERVICES

The Intensive Youth Support Worker (IYSW) provides direct support to youth between the ages of 12 and 19 who may be engaged in behaviours which are impacting their well-being.

The IYSW works to connect with each youth referred to the program in a meaningful way, focused on building a positive mentoring relationship through one-to-one support in a way that creates a safe space for youth to express themselves, their worries and their goals.

In collaboration with the youth, their legal guardian, and the youth’s circle of support, the Intensive Youth Support Worker (IYSW) assists in the development of clear goals which can range from immediate to longer term. The IYSW may also assist in developing immediate safety plans when they are needed.

Youth accessing this service will be supported to connect with cultural and other supports available in the community that will support them to achieve their goals and have a positive impact on their physical, emotional, mental and spiritual health. The IYSW also supports youth to know where to access resources to meet their basic needs such as shelter and food. The IYSW can also support youth to develop their independent living skills.

The IYSW provides mentorship, guidance and short-term intervention for both low and higher risk youth, including critical incidents where required. Alongside relatives, friends, peer groups and/or other community resources, the IYSW can also support youth to develop and strengthen their independent living skills.

*Note: this is NOT an open referral service; referrals are only accepted internally.
