YOUTH AGREEMENTS

A Youth Agreement (YAG) is a legal agreement made between urban Indigenous youth (16-18 years old) and Surrounded by Cedar Child and Family Services (SCCFS). A thorough assessment of a youth’s circumstances is completed by SCCFS – if a youth is eligible, a social worker will be assigned to work directly with youth to support their goals towards independence.

WHAT ASSISTANCE IS AVAILABLE THROUGH A YAG?

Depending on what you need to live on your own, a YAG, alongside the support of our delegated staff, can assist with the following:

  • Finding a place to live

  • Learning and strengthening life skills

  • Getting support with substance use
  • Getting support with mental wellbeing
  • Money management
  • Education
  • Nurturing cultural and community connection

ARE YOU ELIGIBLE?

You may be eligible for a Youth Agreement if:

  • You are between 16 and 18 years old
  • You have demonstrated skills around pursuing your own goals (education, employment, or life skills)

  • You are in need of assistance and are unable to live with your legal guardian. This will be assessed at SCCFS.
